March 8th is worldwide celebrated as International Women’s Day. In regard to this IEEE KERALA SECTION and WOMEN IN ENGINEERING team of IEEE LINK decided to celebrate the social, economical, technical and cultural achievements of Women. The achievement of this event was that from the beginning till the end, from discussions till execution, each and every single step was coordinated solely by girls.

WiE Wave 3.0 had took the theme  Balance for Better; Technology for Future stressing on the importance of gender equality and technical empowerment. The event was celebrated from March 5th to 15th of March 2019. Stressing on the importance of gender equality and technical empowerment. This year, the main theme will be split into four sub-themes for the Student Branches to focus on the different perspectives of the importance of uplifting technology and sciences among the women community. The sub -themes aims at highlighting the main theme itself more effectively, so that the events can be conducted by the members and volunteers with better quality and relevance.

1. Balance of Technology and Nature

As engineers, we have a responsibility of sustaining the natural resources for the future as well as the wise utilization of the available resources. Almost all disciplines in engineering in one way or the other comes at a point where energy efficiency and the role of new technology for sustaining the planet Earth gains the grounds.More to that, as IEEE volunteers, we are committed to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

In light of this sub-theme, the Student Branches will be able to plan and conduct events more clearly and easily.

2.Betterment of society through engineering

Based on this theme, the activities of the SB Societies could also be involved for developing engineering solutions to the day to day problems. From project making challenges to hackathons, from awareness sessions to brainstorming solutions, this theme could be implemented by utilising the full potential of the engineering students from various branches. Training could be given to the technical paper presentations and seminars as well as motivate students to get involved in projects regarding the same. After all, the society is what we aim at empowering, through our works.

3.Technology and girls

Technology owns the era and women leads the era. Many things can be achieved when one woman helps another and professional careers leap forward. That’s what Women in Technology is all about. Integrating women and technology will help to close this gap and give women and girls the tools and access they want and need.

4.Future dimensions of women in technology

As technology becomes more and more intrinsic in our everyday lives, increasing value will be placed on universal design, creating necessity for designs by women, with women in mind. With more women into the forefront of technical advancement, it will add to a revolution in the gender biased world and instill more knowledge and raise the standards of how women foresee the benefits of a technical life.

Implementation

For this whole 10 days we had ensured that the event is utilised to the maximum by all IEEE members throughout Kerala.

  • The theme with sub themes were provided to them along with some suggestions about events to be conducted under each theme.

Benefits

  • Able to organize events coordinated by girls.
  • Introduction of WiE volunteers
  • Involvement of almost all WiE members in the events conducted as intra and inter college events conducted as part of WiE Wave
